Trenching & Cable Plowing Services

In the pursuit to find an efficient and effective way to bury leadout and under gate cable for electric fencing systems a Ditch Witch 7510 combo trencher was added to AB Custom Fencings equipment arsenal in the spring of 2004. We have since added a walk behind trencher and trench compactor units.

  • left offset chain trencher set for trenching width of 9 inch and a maximum digging depth of 4.5 ft
  • Vibritory cable plow this unit is best suited for electrical wire installations in lighter soils and has a plow depth of 36 inchs. A pasture plow shank can also be fitted to this unit for a shallow installation of pasture pipe
  • backhoe attachement this unit is not ment for continual trench digging, it does however give us extra versitility to dig a little deep or excavate in a tight area or remove obsticles
  • 6 way backfill blade this allows use to fill and level the trenched area once pipe or cable has been installed

  • El ectric, gas, and communication utilities
  • Electric fence under gate/leadout cable
  • Heat lines for outdoor wood boilers
  • Septic, sewer, and drain lines
  • Irrigation pipe
  • Pasture pipe

Why Trench?

  • Speed of installation. Trenching is very quick in right conditions and can be very cost effective
  • Site disturbance is minimal. Why dig a trench two feet wide to put something 4 inches in diameter in? No large clumps of material when excavating. Material is in small cube size pieces right along the side of the trench even in heavy wet clay. This allows for an easier, cleaner, more controlled, and compact backfilling.

 Why Plow?

  • Speed of installation. Cable or Pipe plowing in the right conditions can be the most cost effective means of installation. The plow shank is vibrated into the ground, the Cable or pipe goes down a tube on the back of the plow shank. As the shank is vibrated along it opens up the ground allowing the cable or pipe to be laid at the plow bottom, at the same time vibrating shoes force the plow trench to close in behind the plow shank. This allows for a very efficient No fuse no mess installation.
  • This type of installation is very effective in very gravelly sandy soil types that are prone to collapse when excavated.
  • Little or no disturbance, because the plow only opens the ground up a couple of inches the disturbance even across a landscaped yard is minimal. A cut line in the grass,  a small temporary lift of soil  on either side of the cut and  possibly a few tire tread marks depending on the wetness of the ground at the time. Nothing a pass of our trench compactor and a little top dressing will not take care of.
